OpenAI Teams with Rivals on AI Safety Amid Existential Risk Concerns
OpenAI is collaborating with its rivals Anthropic and Google's DeepMind on AI safety issues, according to reports from Bloomberg News. The move comes after a recent gathering of America's leading AI labs called for a pause in the development of AI technology due to concerns over existential risks.
In an interview, OpenAI's global policy chief Chris Lehane stated that the company had been discussing cooperation on safety with Anthropic and Google DeepMind for several weeks. He emphasized that no antitrust waiver was needed for this collaboration, saying 'It's better to try to work together to prioritize safety.'
Lehane also mentioned that OpenAI would support any bipartisan legislation aimed at mitigating catastrophic AI risks.
