OpenAI's Altman Bashes Goldman Sachs, Recruits Former Bankers
Sam Altman, co-founder of OpenAI, has spoken about his past near-miss at Goldman Sachs. In an interview, he revealed that he was 'peer pressured and tricked' into taking an internship at Goldman during his sophomore year, but ultimately turned it down.
Altman, who went on to found OpenAI, which is now valued at over $7 billion, said working at a traditional bank like Goldman 'sounds unbelievably terrible now'. He believes that the hierarchical structure of banking careers leaves no room for creativity or innovation.
However, it seems that OpenAI is now recruiting from Wall Street. The company has enlisted over 100 former investment bankers from Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley to train AI models. Altman's co-founder Sarah Friar emphasized the importance of finance professionals being 'AI-native', stating that she wouldn't hire a finance employee who didn't know how to use tools like Codex.
