OPKO Health Shifts to Therapeutics Focus with $400-450M War Chest
OPKO Health has shifted its strategy to focus more on therapeutics and less on diagnostics. The company has accumulated around $400-450 million in cash through asset sales, royalty monetization, and restructuring. This financial flexibility will help fund OPKO's broad pipeline of clinical programs, which include five molecules in development using ModeX Therapeutics' multi-specific platform.
ModeX is the centerpiece of OPKO's new strategy, having built a platform for designing multi-specific molecules that can target several disease pathways at once. The company claims to be the only one with high-order multi-specific molecules in clinical development. Its technology has been patented and shows promise in producing high-yield molecules.
OPKO also highlighted its partnerships with Merck, Regeneron, and BARDA, which provide non-dilutive capital for its development without adding shareholder dilution. The company's COVID antibody program, in collaboration with BARDA, is nearing Phase 1 completion and has shown activity against all tested variants.
