Padres Sign Brent Honeywell Jr., Former Dodgers Postseason Hero

Brent Honeywell Jr., the right-hander who emerged as a postseason hero for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024, has signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres. The 31-year-old reliever last pitched in Game 4 of the 2024 World Series, where he allowed five runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.

Honeywell's task was to preserve the Dodgers' bullpen for Game 5, which they ultimately won against the New York Yankees. He also took on a similar role in the NL Championship Series against the New York Mets, tossing a career-high 4.2 innings in Game 5.

The Padres have a history of reclamation projects, with President of Baseball Operations A.J. Preller known for transforming under-the-radar players into stars. Honeywell's minor league deal presents an opportunity for Preller to make another savvy pickup.
