Palantir Surges 51% as Tech Sector Sees August Rally
The technology sector experienced a significant rally in August, led by Palantir Technologies (PLTR), which rose 51% as investors reacted to strong second-quarter results and an upbeat full-year outlook. This surge has left the stock more exposed to valuation and expectation risks.
Palantir was followed closely by Salesforce (CRM) with a 39.95% advance, while Super Micro Computer (SMCI) climbed 31.27%. The rally also saw Nvidia (NVDA) deliver a solid August, gaining 8%, as well as Microsoft (MSFT) rising 4%, Meta Platforms (META) adding 3%, and Apple (AAPL) increasing 2%.
The broader technology sector gained 6.36% during the month, but not all stocks performed equally well. Western Digital (WDC) dropped 17%, while Datadog (DDOG) declined 11%, showing that strong quarterly results did not always translate into higher share prices as investor expectations remained elevated.
