Patricia Mallon Dies at 75 After Decades of Service and Volunteerism

Patricia Marie Mallon, a 75-year-old resident of Hatfield, PA, passed away on August 7, 2026, after a multi-year battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia on March 5, 1951, to John and Pearl Hogan, Pat grew up in the city's Parkwood section and graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 1969.

Her passion for astronomy was sparked by NASA's space race, which led her to major in Astronomy at Villanova University. There, she met her future husband, Paul Mallon, in a Quantum Mechanics class, and they married on January 19, 1975. After college, Pat worked as a Systems Engineer at IBM before becoming a stay-at-home mom to her three children.

Pat was a devoted mother and wife who volunteered extensively at her children's schools, teaching computer science, coaching sports, and more. In her free time, she enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, walking in the park, raising butterflies, and watching the Phillies.

In recent years, Pat raised over 1,300 butterflies, including her favorite, the threatened Monarch butterfly. She is survived by her husband Paul, their children Kathleen, Debra, and Paul, two grandchildren, and two siblings. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Foundation for Cancer Research or the Monarch Butterfly Fund.
