Pentagon Signs Framework Agreements with Boeing and RTX to Boost SM-3 Missile Production

The Pentagon has signed framework agreements with Boeing and RTX to boost production of key components for the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3), a ship-launched interceptor used by the Navy to counter ballistic missile threats. The contracts, which will span seven years, target avionics and ejector assemblies that Boeing supplies to Raytheon for the SM-3 Block IB and IIA variants.

The SM-3 is an integral part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, used to neutralize incoming missiles outside of the Earth's atmosphere. Michael P. Duffey, under secretary of war for acquisition and sustainment, emphasized the importance of these agreements, stating, 'These agreements ensure our Warfighters get the munitions they need to win.'

The framework agreements will allow Boeing to begin manufacturing components even before final contracts are established, providing suppliers with the confidence required to invest in increased production capacity. This move mirrors a similar seven-year deal made in April, where Boeing agreed to triple the production of PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement seekers.
