Pershing Square Ditches Alphabet for $2.3B Microsoft Bet
Pershing Square Capital Management, led by billionaire investor Bill Ackman, has made significant changes to its portfolio. The company's largest holding is now Microsoft, with a $2.3 billion position that includes 6.2 million shares. This represents 11.9% of Pershing's 14-stock portfolio.
Ackman trimmed his position in Amazon by 25%, or 2.9 million shares, and sold his entire stake in Alphabet. He also purchased an additional 553,000 shares of Microsoft stock.
The changes come after Microsoft posted huge gains at the end of July when it issued its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report. The company reported $90 billion in quarterly revenue, a 18% increase from last year, and net income was up 31% to $35.76 billion.
Pershing Square's CEO Bill Ackman cited Microsoft's strong growth, positive free cash flow, and increasing demand for Azure as reasons for his company's bullish sentiment towards the tech giant. The report noted that 'With direct involvement from CEO Satya Nadella, the company has redoubled Copilot product innovation and growing adoption should further entrench M365 as agentic work scales.'
