Philippines Can Unlock Trillion-Dollar AI Potential with Strategic Workforce Redesign
The Philippines is on the cusp of a significant economic shift due to the growing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workforce. According to Salesforce's recent survey, nearly all Filipino knowledge workers expect to use AI and AI agents at work, but only 34% say their company is training them on how to use these tools.
To unlock an estimated P2.8 trillion in economic value by 2030, businesses must invest in workforce redesign. This requires leaders to adopt two key principles: humans remain in control, and the goal is augmentation, not replacement. AI agents handle work that benefits from speed and scale, while humans focus on tasks requiring judgment, creativity, and contextual understanding.
The four-step framework for putting these principles into action is called the 4Rs: Redesign, Reskill, Redeploy, and Rebalance. This approach involves examining work at the task level, building AI fluency and data literacy into workforce development programs, auditing existing workers for transferable capabilities, and establishing a clear division of responsibility between humans and agents.
