PIA Flight Turns Back After Cargo Hold Fire Alarm Warning
A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing 777 flight returned to Toronto Pearson International Airport after crew members received a fire alarm warning from the cargo hold on August 30, 2026.
The Karachi-bound service had just taken off when the captain indicated a possible fire in a panel associated with the cargo area. The captain immediately contacted air traffic control and requested permission to return to Toronto as a precaution.
With 130 passengers onboard, the aircraft turned back safely and landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport after receiving clearance from air traffic control.
The PIA engineering team inspected the aircraft while fire brigade personnel examined the cargo hold. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members.
