Pixar Unveils Gatto Art and Story Details Ahead of 2027 Release
Pixar Animation Studio has shared new details about its upcoming film, Gatto. The studio revealed art from the movie at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, showcasing the unique animation style of 'a living painting' that captures the handmade texture of Venice. According to Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter, the studio was experimenting with techniques to bring depth and dimension to the film.
Gatto follows the story of Nero, a black cat who questions his life choices after years of maneuvering the canal-ridden city of Venice. He finds himself in a difficult situation and is forced to form an unexpected friendship that may lead him to his purpose. The movie also introduces Maya, a street musician who holds Nero captive with her music.
The film is directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, the team behind the Oscar-nominated feature Luca. Gatto will release exclusively in theaters on March 5, 2027.
