Pixel 11 Pro Fold Falls Short in Camera Department
Google's new foldable smartphone, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, boasts an impressive design and features like its slab counterparts. However, it falls short in one crucial area: camera performance.
The phone shares many of the same improvements as the Pixel 11 series smartphones, including Google's HiLight feature, a glowing colorful LED on the Camera Bar, and the new Tensor G6 chip.
Additionally, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold includes Google's new Magic Capture mode, which records video and then pulls out and edits specific photos with a single tap. The phone also features AI-based photo editing and Camera Coach through Google Gemini.
The external screen measures 6.5 inches when folded, while the unfolded display spans an impressive 8 inches. Peak HDR maxes out at 3,600 nits in both cases, although the full-screen HDR is slightly brighter on the external screen (2,400 versus 2,000 nits).
Unfortunately, the camera system on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold has notable downgrades compared to Google's flagship slab phones. The phone features a 48-megapixel Quad PD wide camera with a Type 1/1.56 sensor, similar to the standard Pixel 11. In contrast, the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL boast more advanced cameras, including new 50-megapixel Octa PD Type 1/1.3 sensors and larger telephoto cameras.
The pricing of the Pixel 11 Pro Fold starts at $1,899, which is a significant jump from the base Pixel 11's starting price of $899. The phone will be available for preorder now and begin shipping on August 20.
