Pixel Drop Brings Redesigned VIPs Widget and Expanded Scam Detection
Google has rolled out the September 2026 Pixel Drop, which brings new features and changes to Android 17 QPR1. One of the notable updates is the redesign of the Pixel VIPs widget, which now allows users to quickly call and text contacts with a single tap from their homescreen.
The revamped Pixel VIPs widget also includes a floating navigation overlay that lets users swipe the bottom of their screen to switch between favorite people. Additionally, glanceable notification badges are now displayed on the widget.
The redesign is available for the Pixel 6+ in all regions and languages with version 2.0 of the Pixel VIPs app/service and Google Contacts 4.77+
On the safety front, Scam Detection in Google Messages is expanding to new languages and regions. It's now available in Arabic, English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish, as well as in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, UK, and the US.
Furthermore, In-App Scam Detection for third-party chat apps is being expanded to include warnings in the Gboard suggestions row. This feature is currently available on Pixel 6+ in the US for Arabic, English, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.
