Pixel HiLight Falls Short

The Pixel 11 Pro's 'HiLight' feature has been met with disappointment from reviewers and users alike. The notification system, which uses a rear-facing LED to alert users of calls and Gemini activity, feels half-baked and under-implemented.

Currently, the HiLight indicator only functions for two purposes: notifying users when a favorite contact is calling them or indicating that Gemini is active. This limited functionality has left many wondering why Google didn't launch with more features, especially considering the potential of customizable notification LEDs.

Ben Schoon from 9to5Google pointed out that even BlackBerry's notification systems were more comprehensive than this. The lack of integration for messages and other apps is particularly puzzling, given the excitement around Pixel devices' camera capabilities.

The article also highlights the feature's potential for customization, citing Andrew Romero's suggestion to have different colors for various apps. However, it remains to be seen whether Google will add these features in future updates or let them languish like previous half-baked features.
