Pixel Phone Owners Get Up to 7 Years of Software Support

Google Pixel phone owners can breathe a sigh of relief as they receive the best software support in Android. Unlike Samsung, Google is quicker to release new Android security patches and version updates.

The length of time for updates depends on the device model, but most phones will get up to 7 years of Android OS and security patch updates. For devices like the Pixel 8 and newer, including the entire Pixel 9 series and 10 series, Google is committing to full 7-year support.

For older models like the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which are still receiving updates, Google offers 3 years of Android version updates along with 5 years of security patches. The Pixel 4 line and older devices no longer receive updates.

The schedule for updates has changed over time. For most months, monthly security updates will appear within the first week of the month, although Google now gives itself more flexibility in release timing. Quarterly updates have been seen on Pixel 6, 7a, and 7 series phones, while Android version updates are released earlier in the year (Q2) followed by another sizable release in Q4.
