Pixel Phones Get New Battery Usage Summary Feature
Google is introducing a new feature for its Pixel phones called Battery Usage Summaries. This feature highlights unusual battery drain and identifies the apps using the most power.
The feature was first spotted under development two weeks ago, and our teardown indicated that Gemini Nano would generate the summaries on-device locally.
Pixel phones already provide detailed information about where the battery is being consumed, but this new feature offers a simpler way to make sense of it. The Battery Usage Summary appears at the top of the Battery usage page, showing how much power has been used and which apps are responsible.
According to Google's support page, the feature identifies the apps that consume the most battery, monitors background activity, and compares overall and app-specific battery consumption against recent averages. The feature is automatically turned on when available and requires the latest version of AI Core.
