Pixel Tag Stumbles in Tracking Market with High Price and Limited Capabilities
The Pixel Tag, Google's new entry into the tracking market, may not be as competitive as expected. The device is priced at $29 and will enter a crowded field with established players like Motorola's Moto Tag and Chipolo. This overlap might make it difficult for the Pixel Tag to stand out.
Motorola's Moto Tag already offers similar features at a lower price point, making it an attractive alternative. Additionally, some devices may not support the Pixel Tag's key feature, precision finding, due to limited Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support on Android phones.
The Find Hub network, which powers the Pixel Tag, relies on nearby Android phones to relay lost tag locations to their owners. However, this network is not opt-in by default, and most people are never prompted to turn it on, making it less effective than Apple's Find My network.
