Pixel User Uncovers Hidden Storage Management Tools on Google Devices
A Google Pixel user was frustrated by persistent storage warnings despite having 2TB of cloud storage on Google One. The author, Ali, spent over a decade covering consumer technology and decided to investigate the issue.
The author tested three Google tools: Google Photos, Files by Google, and Google One's storage manager. They assumed these tools were competing for the same goal, but found that each tool addressed different aspects of storage management.
Google Photos was able to clear 13.6GB of space on the device almost instantly without affecting cloud storage. This feature is essentially a manual version of a Pixel feature called Smart Storage, which automatically cleans up backed-up media after a specific number of days.
