Plug Power Tests Backup Power System with Microsoft
Plug Power, a hydrogen fuel cell company, has been testing its backup power system in collaboration with Microsoft. The company delivered a 3-megawatt (MW) prototype capable of generating enough energy to replace a standard diesel generator.
The unit was built and housed in two 40-foot shipping containers, which responded to simulated power grid outages by ramping up in seconds and using hydrogen as fuel.
CEO Jose Luis Crespo emphasized that this collaboration doesn't signal a strategy shift for the company. Instead, Plug Power remains focused on its core operations while reining in costs to achieve profitability for the first time in its history.
