Poland Becomes Europe's Apache Maintenance Hub
Poland has made significant strides in its industrial offset commitments related to the acquisition of 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters from Boeing. The country's Military Aviation Works No. 1 (Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 1, WZL-1) and the Military Central Design and Technology Office (Wojskowe Centralne Biuro Konstrukcyjno-Technologiczne, WCBKT) signed executive offset agreements with Boeing, enabling the development of advanced maintenance and sustainment capabilities for the fleet in Poland.
The ceremony took place at WZL-1's facilities in Łódź and was attended by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and officials from the Polish Ministry of National Defence. The new capabilities will allow for the establishment of an Authorized Service Center for the AH-64E Apache in Europe, capable of supporting at least 96 helicopters.
The project focuses on WZL-1's development of capabilities for inspections, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of the Apaches, covering organizational-level (O-level) and intermediate-level (I-level) maintenance tasks, as well as selected component repairs and overhauls at depot level (D-level). Additionally, WCBKT will assess the compatibility of Polish ground support equipment with the AH-64E, allowing for certification and incorporation of local industry solutions into fleet support.
