Poland Buys 96 Apaches, Establishes Major Support Infrastructure

Poland has become one of the largest operators of Apache attack helicopters in the world after signing an agreement to purchase 96 AH-64E Apaches. The deal, worth approximately $10 billion, is a significant boost for Poland's defense capabilities and cements its position as a major player in European security.

The agreement also includes two offset implementation agreements between Boeing and Polish state defence companies WZL-1 and WCBKT to build the largest Apache support infrastructure in Europe. This will enable the maintenance and repair of at least 96 aircraft, including the new Apaches, as well as evaluation of Polish-developed ground support equipment.

The project is seen as a strategic move by Poland to reduce its dependency on overseas depot chains and establish a centre of gravity for NATO's attack aviation capabilities in the region. The AH-64E is the current production standard for the Apache, with advanced features such as Level 4 manned-unmanned teaming, which allows a crew to control both the sensor payload and the flight path of a drone.
