Procter & Gamble Truck Catches Fire in Gilmer, Texas
An 18-wheeler truck blocked traffic in Gilmer, Texas for over four hours after its trailer caught fire due to a mechanical failure. The incident occurred on Sunday evening near the intersection of Highway 271 and Highway 155 North.
Gilmer Fire Chief Billy Joe Williams stated that the driver was not injured and managed to disconnect the truck before the fire spread. According to Williams, the mechanical failure was likely related to the brakes or tires, which caused a fire on the trailer.
The 18-wheeler, owned by Procter & Gamble, was carrying detergents at the time of the incident. The fire damaged some of the truck's product and caused tires to blow out, with radiant heat affecting other parts of the vehicle.
Emergency crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control, and cleanup efforts focused on containing detergent spills onto the highway. The incident blocked Highway 155 North for approximately five hours, but no one else was involved.
