Project Runway Alumni Thrive in Fashion Industry
For over two decades, hundreds of fashion designers have competed on 'Project Runway' in the hopes of making it to Fashion Week. While winning the grand prize is every contestant's dream, not all winners go on to achieve major success. In fact, some victors experience a short-lived high before fading into obscurity.
However, several 'Project Runway' alumni have carved out impressive careers for themselves despite their finish in the competition. One such designer is Christian Siriano, who won Season 4 and went on to launch his own eponymous label. The brand offers ready-to-wear and custom couture pieces, as well as interior decorations and furniture.
Siriano has been busy with numerous partnerships, including collaborations with Sherwin-Williams, Macy's, GROHE, Zales, and TRESemmé. He has also designed custom looks for several high-profile clients, including Heidi Klum, Ariana Grande, and Lady Gaga.
Another successful 'Project Runway' alum is Leanne Marshall, who won Season 5 but left the bridal industry in 2022 to focus on supplying beautifully draped gowns for figure skaters, dancers, and public fundraising efforts. Marshall offers ready-to-wear designs online, with each piece ranging from $200 to $2,000.
Mondo Guerra, a runner-up in Season 8, has also achieved significant success. He launched his own eponymous fashion brand after the competition and has gone on to design costumes for several 'RuPaul's Drag Race' contestants. Guerra has also hosted an 'I'm a Survivor' fashion show for charity and debuted a new line at New York Fashion Week SS25.
