Qualcomm and Amazon Unite on Next-Gen AI Infrastructure
Qualcomm Technologies Inc., maker of advanced processing chips for mobile devices and data centers, has announced a multi-generational partnership with Amazon.com to build next-generation AI infrastructure. The collaboration will span multiple generations of customized silicon to support Amazon's growing AI needs, specifically in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) inference.
As part of this agreement, Qualcomm and Amazon will work together on developing advanced optical connectivity solutions, leveraging Qualcomm's SerDes and optical DSP technologies to deliver high-bandwidth interconnects within Amazon's data center networks. The partnership also includes a deeper integration of AWS AI infrastructure into Qualcomm's electronic design automation (EDA) workloads aimed at reducing chip design cycles.
Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating 'As AI demand accelerates, data center infrastructure will require advances in both computing and connectivity to deliver greater performance with more efficiency.' This deal marks a significant expansion of Qualcomm's partnership with Amazon, which has been growing its presence in the cloud computing market.
Qualcomm shares have responded positively to this news, trading 6.92% higher at $180.41 as of publication time. The company's stock has been among today's top performers following the announcement.
