Qualcomm Stock Surges on AI Deal with Amazon, $60 Billion Payment Not Guaranteed
Qualcomm's stock surged nearly 9% on September 8 after the chipmaker announced a multi-generation AI infrastructure agreement with Amazon.
The widely-reported figure of $60 billion, however, is not guaranteed revenue from Amazon. Instead, it represents the maximum amount of payments connected to the warrant's vesting conditions.
Qualcomm issued an Amazon affiliate a warrant to acquire up to 25 million Qualcomm shares at $161.26 per share. Only 3.75 million warrant shares vested at issuance, representing 15% of the maximum.
The remaining shares vest in tranches tied to commercial arrangements and actual purchases, with the filing describing the maximum payments relevant to the warrant's vesting framework.
