Quantum-Classical Computing Breakthrough Simulates Largest Molecular Model Yet
A team of researchers from Cleveland Clinic, RIKEN, and IBM has achieved a new milestone in molecular modeling using quantum-classical computing. They successfully simulated a protein containing 12,635 atoms, the largest ever achieved using quantum computers.
The team combined the power of quantum and classical computing in a framework called quantum-centric supercomputing. This approach uses the strengths of both computational paradigms to tackle previously intractable problems in molecular modeling.
The researchers scaled their method 40 times while achieving a 210-fold improvement in accuracy. They also advanced the work further, resulting in a significant leap in precision.
