Ranger Residents Revitalize Downtown History with Coca-Cola Mural Restoration
A historic Coca-Cola mural is set to return to Ranger's downtown area after residents raised funds to restore it, following a City Council decision to decline funding. The mural will be recreated by a local muralist and is expected to cost around $12,000.
The project was led by the Ranger Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in partnership with the community, with the goal of improving downtown's appearance and attracting more businesses and visitors. Angela Deacon, an organizer, stated that residents value their town's history and see this mural as a starting point for broader improvements.
The City Council voted against using EDC funding for the project on August 10, prompting residents to begin raising funds themselves. Within 24 hours, over $5,700 was donated, exceeding initial expectations. The organizers are seeking donations to close the remaining gap and complete the mural by homecoming.
A larger plan is in place to add four murals downtown as part of ongoing restoration efforts. Deacon emphasized that every donation counts, whether it's five or ten dollars, and expressed gratitude for the community's support.
