Rate Hike Looms: These Stocks May Thrive Anyway
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) chose to leave interest rates unchanged at its latest meeting, but investors may not be out of the woods yet. CME Group's FedWatch estimates a 57.7% chance of a rate hike in October, based on 30-day Fed funds futures prices.
Rising interest rates can be detrimental to many stocks, but there are some that are less affected or even benefit from higher rates. UnitedHealth Group, JPMorgan Chase, and Chevron are three such stocks that investors may consider buying despite the potential for a rate hike.
UnitedHealth Group's turnaround appears to be genuine, with earnings up 54% year over year in the second quarter of 2026. Its health insurance business is less likely to be affected by interest rates, as Americans are unlikely to cancel their policies even if rates rise.
