Rate Hike Looms: These Stocks Stand to Gain
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) may not have raised interest rates in its latest meeting, but investors should be prepared for a possible hike soon. CME Group's FedWatch estimates a 57.7% chance of a rate increase at the FOMC meeting scheduled for late October.
Rising rates often hurt stocks, but there are some that benefit from higher interest rates. UnitedHealth Group is one such stock, which should continue to perform well regardless of whether rates rise or fall. Its earnings jumped 54% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, and management has raised its full-year guidance due to an improving outlook.
JPMorgan Chase also benefits from higher rates as it boosts net interest income. As the world's largest bank by market cap, JPMorgan should see significant gains if the FOMC raises rates in October. Chevron is another stock that could thrive in a high-rate environment due to sustained high fuel prices keeping overall inflation elevated.
