Reconnection through Design: Sherwin-Williams Reveals Fall Trend Forecast
As consumers shift their focus back to indoor activities this fall, they're creating spaces designed for connection and community. Sherwin-Williams Consumer Brands Group's Fall 2026 Decor Trend Report highlights a growing 'reconnect' mindset, where people are making room for game nights, hobbies, music, casual meals, and crafting.
The report's color experts, Lisbeth Parada of Dutch Boy Paints, Krylon, and Minwax and Sue Kim of Cabot, explore how this shift is showing up in homes through fresh shades of paint and stain, unexpected finishes, and approachable DIY projects. They identify four ways homeowners are creating spaces that foster connection:
Firstly, updated furnishings and decor can make a room feel more social and personal. Small projects like painting a game caddy or frame can be a cue that the space is meant to be used. Mixing finishes like satin and matte with high-gloss or metallic accents gives retro-inspired forms a current point of view.
Secondly, rooms with a reason are created by defining spaces inspired by real-life activities, such as game corners, listening areas, reading nooks, or hobby zones without doing a complete room makeover. The focus is on creating a backdrop that helps an underused area feel intentional and connected to the household routine.
Thirdly, spaces that support routine can become practical anchors for everyday life. Entryways, mudrooms, and transition spaces can be updated with wood stain and finishing products like Minwax Wood Finish in Weathered Oak, Simply White, and Violet to add warmth and character.
