Reddit Takes Aim at Alphabet in Digital Advertising Showdown
Reddit (RDDT) and Alphabet (GOOGL), two major players in digital advertising, are vying for market share. While Reddit's ad business is gaining traction with community-driven advertising, Alphabet remains dominant in global search and digital ad markets.
RDDT's ad revenue grew a remarkable 64% year-over-year to $762 million in the second quarter of 2026, outpacing its total revenue growth of 61%. The company's innovation in its ad stack, particularly with AI-driven ad automation and optimization tool Reddit Max, has delivered significant results. Advertiser usage of Max grew by over 60%, while revenues from Max campaigns increased by more than 150%.
GOOGL, on the other hand, benefited from strong momentum across its advertising business, driven by continued growth in Google Search and YouTube. Google advertising revenues increased 14.4% year-over-year to $81.63 billion in the second quarter of 2026, while YouTube advertising revenues jumped 13% to $11.06 billion.
While both companies have strong digital advertising growth prospects, RDDT appears better positioned for greater upside due to faster ad revenue growth and expanding advertiser adoption. However, GOOGL's dominant position in the market and its growing use of Gemini across its advertising infrastructure remain key catalysts.
