Regaining Control with Self-Hosted Photo Management

A tech-savvy individual, Jack, has been using Google Photos to back up and view his photos and videos for years. However, he soon realized that by storing all his memories in one place, he was losing control over them.

That's when he discovered Immich, a self-hosted photo management platform that runs on Docker. Jack decided to build his own photo library using Immich and documented the process.

To start, Jack installed Docker Desktop and opened Terminal to create an Immich directory. He then downloaded the necessary configuration files using `curl` commands.

Next, he edited the `.env` file to specify where Immich should store his uploaded photos and database. This was a crucial step in taking back control of his photo library, as it allowed him to decide where his data would live.
