Repatha Breakthrough: PCSK9 Inhibitor Lowers Death Risk from Cardiovascular Events

Amgen's Repatha, a PCSK9 inhibitor, has made history as the first medication to lower the risk of dying from all causes, including cardiovascular events, in high-risk primary prevention patients. This breakthrough was announced at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Munich on August 28, 2026.

The study showed that Evolocumab reduced the risk for patients at high risk for their first heart attack or stroke. PCSK9 inhibitors like Repatha work by blocking a protein that raises cholesterol levels in the blood.
