Retailers Remove WWII-Era German Soldier Halloween Costumes Amid Criticism

Target, Walmart, and Amazon have removed a Halloween costume from their websites after criticism that it resembled German soldiers' uniforms during World War II. The 'German Army Soldier Adult Costume' was sold by Orion Costumes and included a jacket, trousers with boot covers, a belt, and hat.

Walmart stated in an email to USA TODAY that the company expects all items sold on its platform to meet its policies and standards, and will take swift action if violations are detected.

This is not the first time Target has faced backlash over a Halloween costume. In late August, the company apologized for selling a 'Kids' Glows Under ‌Blacklight Circus Clown Halloween Costume' that critics said resembled Blackface.
