Russia Continues Kyiv Assault Amidst Air Defense Crisis
Russia's military campaign in Ukraine has taken a toll on the capital city of Kyiv. The eighth consecutive day of Russian attacks saw at least six people injured, including a 12-year-old girl, and damage to a Coca-Cola plant in Brovary.
The attacks, which have been relentless for over a week, have prompted President Volodymyr Zelensky to introduce changes to Ukraine's aerial alert system. The new plan divides alerts into red and yellow levels, with yellow corresponding to drone threats and red signaling incoming missiles and massive combined attacks.
The ongoing conflict has left Ukraine struggling with a severe shortage of air defense systems, making cities vulnerable to ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones. Despite expanding its long-range strike capabilities to target Russia, the air defense crisis has made summer 2026 the deadliest time for civilians since the invasion began.
