Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX Wingtip Strike During Landing at Dublin Airport

A Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX was involved in an incident at Dublin Airport on September 10, when it rolled sharply to the right during landing and struck its wingtip on the runway. The plane, EI-ILA, was operating flight FR9457 from Bologna / Borgo Panigale Airport (BLQ) and had strong gusts of up to 26 knots as well as variable wind directions.

The pilots performed a go-around after the wingtip strike and landed safely on their second attempt. The plane spent almost ten hours on the ground in Dublin, which is far longer than Ryanair's notoriously quick turnaround times. According to a Ryanair spokesperson, 'Ryanair flight FR9457 from Bologna suffered a minor wing tip impact. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers offloaded normally. Our engineers have repaired the wing tip and the aircraft has since gone back into service.'

A wingtip strike can pose several dangers if not properly repaired, as it can damage the wing itself. However, in this case, Ryanair described the impact as minor, and its engineers were able to repair the wing before the plane re-entered service the following day.
