Ryanair Plane Suffers Engine Failure, Passenger Partially Sucked Out

A Ryanair Boeing 737 suffered an engine failure on July 10 during a flight from Thessaloniki, Greece to Memmingen, Germany. The plane was climbing through 16,000 feet when pilots received a high-vibration indication for the right engine.

The crew followed the checklist, but the vibrations increased significantly. A loud bang and cabin altitude warning prompted passengers and crew to put on their oxygen masks.

One passenger, who was partially sucked out of the plane through a shattered window, was pulled back in by other passengers. The pilots then initiated an emergency descent.

The incident is similar to one that occurred on a Southwest flight in 2018, where a broken engine fan blade sent debris into the fuselage and shattered a window. Investigators found bird remains inside the engine of the Ryanair plane, which may have caused the failure.
