S&P 500 Hits New Record High Amid Strong Earnings and Falling Oil Prices
The S&P 500 index climbed 1.32% to reach 7,700.83 on Tuesday, marking yet another record high.
The Dow Jones industrial average surged by over 800 points and the Nasdaq Composite gained almost 2%, while oil prices fell amid Middle East tensions.
Industrial, technology, and semiconductor stocks led the benchmark index higher, with Caterpillar and Micron Technology among the top gainers. The price of US crude declined to $76.16 per barrel, a 5.20% drop, while Brent crude fell to $79.96 per barrel, a 4.54% decline.
The rally was driven by positive corporate earnings and optimism over easing geopolitical tensions, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggesting that a settlement may soon be reached regarding the conflict in the Middle East.
