The US stock market traded in a narrow range on Tuesday, August 11. The S&P 500 held close to record territory while the Dow Jones Industrial Average outperformed.

Strong market breadth continues to support the broader rally. However, investors are cautious due to elevated Treasury yields and uncertainty around oil prices.

The Dow Jones was up 221.79 points, or 0.41%, at 54,197.77, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.03% to 7,750.84. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.35% to 26,513.18.

Industrials and utilities led the S&P 500 sectors on Tuesday morning, helping explain the Dow's relative strength. Technology and communication-services stocks lagged, with Nvidia gaining about 1.2%, Microsoft falling roughly 0.8%, and Apple dropping about 1%.
