S&P 500 Holds Steady as 30-Year Treasury Yield Hits 19-Year High
The US stock market experienced a mixed day on Monday, with the S&P 500 staying close to record territory and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipping. The tech sector provided support, with Micron, Sandisk, and Nvidia posting strong gains.
The 30-year Treasury yield reached its highest level since 2007, touching about 5.29%. This surge in long-term borrowing costs adds pressure to the stock market, increasing financing costs and providing investors with an alternative to equities.
Despite this, the S&P 500's trend remains bullish, trading above its key short-, medium- and longer-term moving averages. However, the bond market's rise poses a challenge to the equity market's uptrend.
