Salesforce Cuts 133 Engineering Jobs Amid Industry-Wide AI Reshaping
Salesforce is cutting 133 jobs from its workforce in its third round of layoffs this year. The affected roles are mainly engineering positions, including software and technical-support engineers, an SVP of software engineering, a product director, and a VP of sustainability.
The Washington filing states that the terminations are permanent and effective October 5. However, it does not mention AI as a reason for the layoffs, despite Salesforce's CEO Marc Benioff crediting AI tools for efficiency gains in the past year.
This move is part of the industry-wide trend of reshaping and reorganizing around AI. Salesforce has promoted Miguel Milano to chief operating officer and hired senior engineers from Microsoft, while also promoting Agentforce, its AI-agent product that passed $1bn in annualized revenue in May.
