Salesforce Joins Tech Giants Cutting Staff in Seattle
Seattle's tech industry is facing another rough week as Salesforce joins Google and Zillow in announcing layoffs. The company will cut 59 employees from its Fremont and downtown Bellevue offices, according to a state regulatory filing.
The termination date is set for October 5, two months from the notification date on Wednesday. This marks the second time this year that Salesforce has laid off employees in Seattle, following a wave of cuts in May 2023 when the company let go of 93 workers.
Since 2023, Salesforce has been shrinking its Seattle-area footprint, giving up an office building in Kirkland and putting another on the market. However, the company recently renewed its lease at the Data 1 building in Fremont, indicating it still plans to maintain a presence in the area.
The layoffs come as part of a broader trend in the tech industry, with Amazon and Microsoft collectively laying off over 8,850 Seattle-area tech employees since May 2025. The wave of cuts has added to the challenges facing the region's economy, which has been grappling with high inflation and housing costs.
