Salesforce Slashes Jobs Amidst Record Tech Layoffs
Salesforce, the largest private employer in San Francisco, is set to cut dozens of jobs from its headquarters South of Market. According to a state filing with the Employment Development Department, the software-as-a-service giant will lay off 74 people on October 5.
This marks the company's fourth round of Bay Area layoffs in just under a year, following a previous job cut of 86 employees at Salesforce Tower in June. The latest move comes amidst a record year for job cuts in the tech sector, with major companies such as Block, Oracle, Chime, and Meta citing artificial intelligence adoption as a factor.
The trend of using AI to reduce costs and headcounts has led to mass shedding of jobs across the industry, with tech layoffs in 2026 already surpassing the total number for all of 2025. As the industry continues to shift towards automation, many workers are left wondering about their future roles.
