Salesforce Soars on AI-Driven Earnings Surprise
Salesforce delivered an impressive quarterly earnings report that surpassed Wall Street expectations by a significant margin. The company's adjusted earnings per share (EPS) came in at $5.90, well above the forecasted $3.27. Revenue for the quarter was $11.35 billion, slightly higher than the expected $11.32 billion.
The driving force behind Salesforce's strong performance was its strategic investments in artificial intelligence (AI). The company's interest in Anthropic, a prominent AI firm, added a substantial $2.6 billion gain to its quarterly earnings. Meanwhile, Agentforce, Salesforce's own AI business, achieved remarkable growth, with annualized revenue exceeding $1.5 billion and a 240% year-over-year increase.
As a result of this successful quarter, Salesforce shares surged approximately 12% in after-hours trading. The company also boosted its full-year revenue expectation to $46.1 billion-$46.4 billion from the previous range of $45.9 billion-$46.2 billion. Free cash flow climbed 81% to $1.10 billion, significantly outpacing estimates.
The combination of Salesforce's Anthropic investment payoff and its own AI growth helped alleviate concerns that generative AI might undermine traditional software firms. For investors, the quarter provided a compelling demonstration of the potential benefits of AI-driven strategic investments.
