The company was founded by Marc Benioff, a former Oracle executive, in March 1999. It went public in 2004 and has since experienced rapid growth, ranking as the 61st largest company globally by market capitalization as of September 2022, with a value of nearly $153 billion.
Salesforce became the world's largest provider of enterprise applications in 2022 and ranked 120th on the 2024 Fortune 500 list, generating $31.352 billion in revenue. The company has also been included in the Dow Jones Industrial Average since 2020.
