Salesforce's Proprietary Data Becomes Critical Asset in AI Economy
Salesforce's recent earnings have sparked debate about the role of proprietary enterprise data in the AI economy. According to an op-ed by CNBC, as AI models become more capable and interchangeable, companies with trusted data may hold a stronger competitive position. Salesforce's Data 360 platform has ingested 104 trillion customer records during the quarter, up 355% from last year, while its Agentforce product saw annual recurring revenue rise 240% year-over-year.
The op-ed suggests that software companies with valuable proprietary data and strong cash flow may be better positioned for the AI transition. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff noted that nine of the top 10 AI companies use Salesforce and Slack, with their combined spending up 435% year over year. This has led some to argue that lower-cost intelligence increases the value of incumbent data.
Salesforce's financial results were also impressive, with revenue growing 11% to $11.35 billion and non-GAAP operating margins reaching 34.1%. Adjusted earnings were $5.90 per share, while management raised full-year guidance to as much as $46.4 billion.
