Samsung Backs Euclyd with $230M Series A Round, Challenges Nvidia
Dutch startup Euclyd has secured a significant investment of $230 million in its Series A round, led by Samsung and Somerset Capital Partners. This funding will be used to develop AI inference chips that can rival those of Nvidia.
Euclyd's chip system is designed differently from GPUs and aims to reduce the energy needs and costs of AI infrastructure. The startup plans two revenue streams: selling hardware and rack systems to enterprises, and licensing its intellectual property to firms building their own chips.
Nvidia has a near-monopoly on high-end chips, but hyperscalers and startups are looking for alternatives due to rising AI data-centre costs and energy demands. Euclyd's CEO Bernardo Kastrup frames the stakes broadly: 'AI is becoming a foundation of economic growth, scientific discovery and national competitiveness, but its potential will remain constrained unless we fundamentally change the infrastructure beneath it.'
The investment in Euclyd reflects surging investor appetite for GPU alternatives. Samsung's involvement brings more than just capital to the table, with the company able to provide engineering expertise, knowledge of systems, supply chain insights, and a vast network.
