Samsung Leaves Google Behind with Advanced Android Apps

Google's default Android apps have remained largely unchanged over the years, but Samsung has been quietly replacing them with its own versions. These alternatives offer more advanced features and a more intuitive user experience.

Samsung Reminders, for example, surpasses Google Tasks in functionality. It allows users to attach photos directly from their gallery, making it easier to remember specific tasks. The app also triggers alerts based on location, a feature that was previously available in Google Keep but is now missing from Google Tasks.

The Samsung Phone app is another area where the company has improved upon Google's offerings. It provides more information about incoming calls, including when you last spoke with the person and upcoming birthdays or anniversaries. Additionally, users can set custom call backgrounds for each contact and label unknown numbers to make them easier to identify.

Another key area where Samsung is outperforming Google is in its file management capabilities. Samsung My Files offers native support for opening ZIP, RAR, and 7Z archives without the need for separate apps. It also provides network storage access and allows users to strip GPS coordinates from photos before sharing them.
