Samsung Raises Chip Prices Amid TSMC Capacity Crunch
Samsung Electronics has raised prices on some advanced foundry services by up to 15% amid strong demand for AI chips, according to a Reuters report. This move comes as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is facing capacity constraints and considering a plan to hike rates across all its chip nodes by up to 10% starting January 2027.
Samsung has increased prices on new orders for some advanced contract chipmaking services, with Chinese customers facing the steepest increases. Sources familiar with the matter said Samsung needs to serve U.S. customers and reserve capacity for its own chip production.
Major technology companies linked to Samsung's foundry operations include Apple, Nvidia, Google, Broadcom, Qualcomm, and Meta. These companies are driving demand for AI chips, which has left TSMC fully booked and pushing more customers toward rival chipmakers.
