San Jose City Council to Vote on IBM Research Center Rezoning Proposal

The IBM Almaden Research Center in South San Jose may see new zoning designations later this month, after the City Council votes on a proposal to update the property's zoning.

The 687-acre site, which currently bears a Planned Development Zoning District designation, could be split into three separate zones: an Industrial Park Zoning District for approximately 35 acres, including the location of the research center's buildings; and an Open Space Zoning District for around 652 acres.

This rezoning is intended to bring the property in line with the city's general plan designations, according to land-use consultant Erik Schoennauer, who represents the investment group that might buy some or all of the site.
